The player is compatible with DVD-Video, VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 CD. It plays both NTSC- and PAL-formatted discs, convenient for viewing non-region-encoded U.K. DVDs. Parental password protection locks the player when viewing would otherwise be unsupervised. Composite- and S-video outputs grant compatibility with most televisions. A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions, and both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio-video receiver. Supplied accessories include a power cable and DC adapter, a composite-video/stereo audio interconnect, an instruction manual, and a universal remote control with batteries. It runs on this huge Dc converter, and it tends to heat up. The remote is not universal compatable so you have to use their remote only, does not even have a "floating" screen saver to protect tv from burn in. It could of just been my unit that was defective...buy it and try it...if it dont work just send it back. However, like a previous reviewer, upon hooking it up, I got the "no disc" message. So, I hopped on over to the manufacturer's web site for tech support and found a few downloads for updating the bios and firmware. These solutions did not work, so I emailed them. Within a half hour I had a response and an RMA #. So,I shipped the unit back to them, unfortunately, it was over the New Year's weekend so there was a delay in their receiving it. However, they repaired my unit and shipped it back the same day they received it. Now, it works just fine. It's easy to hook up, and plays just fine. I wasn't happy that the unit came with a malfunction, but I was extremely happy with the timeliness and helpfulness of their customer service. Was this review helpful to you? 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: Hope this was just a fluke, because it was awful. , January 8, 2005 Reviewer: An electronics fan from Topeka, KS USA Maybe I just had a bum unit, but I had problems with this thing right out of the box. I popped in my first movie, and it displayed the message, "No disc." So I took the disc out and put it in again and got the message, "Open." I took the disc out and put it in a few more times, until it finally acknowledged the disc and that its lid was closed. However, 3/4 of the way through the movie, it just stopped playing for no reason, suddenly saying "no disc." I managed to restart it, and watched the last 1/4 of the movie with no problems. I was hoping that these were isolated incidents, but they weren't. This problem started on Friday, right after I hooked it up. On Saturday, it became more and more of a struggle to play a disc. At one point, I just had to let it rest for an hour and go back before it would acknowledge that it was indeed closed, and indeed contained a disc. By Sunday, it gave me the message that the lid was open no matter what I did, and the thing was useless. I'm shipping it back and buying a totally different unit. I am very disappointed because I loved the looks of the thing, the remote was easy to figure out, and given the very limited space in my entertainment center, the size was perfect. But if it doesn't work, it doesn't matter if it looks pretty. Hope others are having better luck with this unit, and that my bad luck was just a fluke, but I'm not willing to re-try to find out.
