I recommend: in addition to this product instead of this product Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Originally shown on HBO on May 26, 2002, In Memoriam is one of the most vital documents to emerge after the events of September 11, 2001. Compiled from over 100 sources, this collage of audio, video, and photography will provoke tears, anger, and grief all over again... so why watch it? The title states the purpose: as disturbing as some of these images are, they are also bursting with tenacious and inspiring humanity, bolstered by the wisdom of New York City's then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who recalls--along with his executive staff--the horrendous events of 9/11 as he entered the chaos of Ground Zero. With its closing montage of numerous memorial services, this exemplary 60-minute film, supplemented on the DVD by an interactive timeline of pivotal events, makes it virtually impossible to forget the 3,047 lives lost to terrorist brutality. Despite the astonishing scope of coverage provided, this is not a journalistic endeavor, but a potent visual reminder that 9/11 was a day of unity, transcending the horrors witnessed here. --Jeff Shannon --This text refers to the DVD edition. From the Back Cover With the Honorable Rudolph W. Giuliani as guide, In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01 follows the mayor and his staff from their first realization of what had occurred, through despair and tears, to a newfound strength that would emerge in the spirit of a new America. The documentary presents a panoramic and unique historical record of that fateful day in New York City. In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01 draws on unprecedented access to City Hall and the Mayor's staff, as well as visual... read more See all editorial reviews... As the title suggests, this focuses on New York City on September 11. Film and photographs from various sources come together to show the tragedy from all angles. You know how horrifying it was, but you don't realize the urgency of it until you see it from all angles of the city. The Honorable Rudy Guiliani gives his thoughts on the attack. You actually see him in some of the footage running away from the debris, reminding us he's just a normal person like everyone else in New York on that day. All the sadness is there. This is seen to remember what happened on that day. After the sadness, we see how the community came together to remember, and Daniel Rodriquez, the NYPD's famous singer, concludes the program by singing "God Bless America." A wonderfully done documentary on the World Trade Center's destruction and how it affected New Yorkers. The footage is graphic, but we must remember it happened. --This text refers to the DVD edition . Was this review helpful to you? 2 of 4 people found the following review helpful: Excellent, but, much too short and too limited focus. , January 27, 2005 Reviewer: Bennett Turk (see more about me) from Albany, NY USA "In Memoriam" is a 1 hour HBO documentary about the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks on NYC. It has former mayor Rudolph Giuliani talking about what he and his co-workers did that day, and for a few days afterwards. There is a lot of camera footage showing the planes crashing into the World Trade Centers; people falling to their deaths, and the buildings coming down. There is film of "ground zero", (where the WTC came down), and the numerous funerals that followed. The personal loss of 9-11 is shown when numerous friends of his, as well as the husband of a female assistant, are among the 3000+ killed. Almost nothing is said about the Pentagon, or Shanksville, PA. There is no footage of the empty pit where the WTC used to stand. Extras are limited to a map of lower NYC, where various events took place, and not much else. Nothing is said about an apparently accidental plane crash that occured in Rockaway, NYC in Oct. 2001, which also affected relatives of the victims of 9-11. No metion is made of the anthrax attacks on the USA, either. I do recommend this video, but, I feel it is much too short to do 9-11 justice. The ideal 9-11 documentary should be at least 3 hours long, and have a lot more information. This is more of a personal recollection of 9-11 by Mr. Giuliani, and how he, (and some others in NYC), reacted to the 9-11 attacks. --This text refers to the DVD edition . It brings back all the pain, the anger, the shock and helplessness, this country felt. It will make you cry and it will make you want to jump up and scream "We're not going to take it anymore" (to borrow a line from the film "Network"). It will also serve as a learning tool for your children, your children's children and generations for years to come. --This text refers to the DVD edition . Was this review helpful to you?
